About Tibet

Tibet is a plateau region in Asia, north of the Himalayas, and the home to the indigenous Tibetan people and its related ethnic groups. With an average elevation of 4,900 meters (16,000 ft), it is the highest region on Earth and has in recent decades increasingly been referred to as the "Roof of the World". The term Roof of the World has been previously applied to the Pamirs Religion and spirituality is extremely important to the Tibetans and has a strong influence over all aspects of lives; ingrained deeply into their cultural heritage. Bon is the ancient traditional religion of Tibet, but following the introduction of Tantric Buddhism into Tibet by Padmasambhava this became eclipsed by Tibetan Buddhism, a distinctive form of Vajrayana. A unified Tibet first came into being under Songtson Gampo in the seventh century. A government headed by the Dalai Lamas, a line of spiritual leaders, nominally ruled a large portion of the Tibetan region at various times from the 1640s until its incorporation into the government of PRC in the 1950s. Tibet, a land of legend, has been a covetous agenda for millions of people around the world. Inborn silence amidst unique culture and monks in maroon color robes along with long trumpets and prayer wheels in their heads are tantalizing many trekkers and explorers since the time immemorial. Potala palace is the tallest vertex situated at the roof of the world and is the land mark of hermit kingdom.
